Description
Oh man! This ammo is from Oman! OMPC has loaded up this new steel ammo can with 800 rounds of the good stuff: 5.56×45 SS109 ammunition, which is great for target practice and also very useful when your AR-15 has to serve as an implement of personal protection.
This cartridge’s FMJ projectile isn’t magnetic because it has a cheap steel jacket. Like the analogous M855, an SS109 cartridge has a penetrator bullet with a partial steel core beneath the tip of its brass jacket. When the SS109 bullet hits a barrier at close-to-medium range, it punches right through; when it hits soft tissue, it penetrates to a depth of 15-20” and potentially breaks in half to deliver multiple wound channels.
This round’s 62 grain FMJ projectile is the right weight for a 1:9 or 1:8 barrel twist, but an AR-15 with a 1:7 barrel twist will reliably hit its target over all but the longest distances. We do wish to emphasize that this is magnetic ammo, and accordingly unwelcome at many commercial ranges.
OMPC loads their NATO-spec 5.56 cartridges with virgin brass cases and non-corrosive Boxer primers. Fire this ammo the day you get it and then take its cases home for reloading, or set it aside in its tight-sealing can for a much later date.
