The slug isn’t just the only type of projectile that shares its name with a mollusk. It is also a highly effective solution for hunting deer and hogs, and it makes a decisive approach to home defense as well.

This 12 Gauge ammo is made in Minnesota by Federal Premium. Each shell is armed with 1-1/4 ounce slug, which is loaded to a muzzle velocity of 1,520 fps. So heavy a projectile absolutely decimates its target at close range, and while it’s not particularly aerodynamic this slug still retains enough momentum to transfer 1,400 ft lbs of energy to a 100 yard target – 40 percent more power than the minimum recommended for ethical whitetail hunting.

This is a hollow point slug, which will mushroom within soft tissue to limit overpenetration as it gouges a far wider wound channel than its original diameter alone could account for. And as a rifled slug, it is designed specifically for smoothbore shotgun barrels.
